Beers of Tanzania

Kilimanjaro

This is perhaps the Chris Rea of beers (right in the middle of middle-of-the-road). Probably Zanzibar’s (and Tanzania’s) most popular beer, but it doesn’t have much going for it.

5/10

Safari

Fairly strong, fairly sweet, fairly smooth but fairly dull lager with a slight chemical after-taste. Also one of the popular ones. If you’re after a hangover, two of these should do the trick.

4/10

Ndovu Special Malt

Another decent African malt-dominated beer that avoids the South American pitfall of making all malt beers extra sweet.

7/10

Serengeti

I’m not sure what an Ndovu is, but if it is an elephant as featured on its label, than the Serengeti beer makes it a quadruple of beers named after the country’s most alluring tourist attractions. Serengeti positions itself as the posh beer of choice, and has fancy marketing and branded beer fridges everywhere (very few of which had any Serengeti it them), but unfortunately, it only just keeps it head above average.

6/10
